Employee Wellness Programs Deliver Rewards - The Surgeon General Says So
According to the CDC and the Surgeon General’s report, millions of Americans have diseases that could have been entirely prevented with regular physical exercise. The numbers are overwhelming: 13.5 Americans have coronary heart disease, 8 million Americans have adult onset diabetes, 95,000 of us are diagnosed with colon cancer every year, and about 1.5 million people experience a heart attack in a year. We are an obese country, with a third of our population labeled as overweight. 50 million of us have high blood pressure.
The good news is that these same diseases can be improved by exercise and lifestyle management. This is why corporate wellness programs, and the wellness coordinators that can implement these programs and support and educate your employees effectively, have become essential. Real, long lasting lifestyle changes that bring wellness not only your employee, but to their families as well, may be too overwhelming for your employee to contemplate. Wellness coordinators make this transition manageable by offering information, programs, and information to help your people reach their goals.
More good news; the Surgeon General’s report also says the following: performing regular physical exercise on most days of the week improves health by reducing the risk of premature death, reducing the risk of developing diabetes, reduces high blood pressure, reduces depression and anxiety, builds strong bones, muscles, and joints, and heightens self esteem and self confidence. Lifestyle changes are not just a band-aid. Fitness, nutrition, preventative health care and wellness programs all work.
Your company can’t afford depressed, ill employees or their families. It’s time to move your people towards informed choices, health, and wellness.
